A VERY ENJOYABLE PROCESS
First and foremost, the design process must be a pleasure for all concerned. This helps ensure that the end result will be!
Garden design is for me is immensely satisfying, because it directly affects the quality of people's life. It can create a magical space for children to grow up and play in and directly improve people's day-to-day living.
A garden can be a place to live, work and grow food in. What ever the size, shape or location
VISION
My design philosophy revolves around tying the desires of the client into the character of the existing garden and its surrounds. Gardens are tailor made for the client. By closely linking the design to the wider landscape or situation, a garden can look inevitable, like it was meant to be there. Situating a garden into its setting as well as meeting the needs of the users, is the key good design.
THE SEASONS
Another important aspect is the look of the garden the year round. I consider it essential to provide a solid structure to a garden that will give it a strong character all year. Seeing the seasons unfold through the changing appearance of plants in a garden is a genuine pleasure.
USABILTY
A garden must be functional and practical, as well as look great. Lifestyles, children, dogs, culinary requirements, seasonal uses must all be accounted for.
The start of the design process is to have a conversation with all those involved to find out all the needs that the garden should serve.
MAINTENANCE
A garden must fit the maintenance capabilities of the client. It must be an enjoyable experience owning a garden, never a chore. A good design ensures that this is the case. Most clients want maximum enjoyment with minimal maintenance, so I have developed a host of ways to achieve this!
STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT
Often it is more practical to develop an overall plan for a garden, and then carry out the work in stages. This spreads the costs and gives you a chance to live with the new garden as it unfolds.
No garden is too big, too small or too great a challenge!
